At about 7:30 p.m. on December 15, 1991, Clare Holcomb was returning from Winchester toward the Catlett, Virginia, area when she noticed two bright lights flying low. She stopped and got out of her car. The light was intensely bright and silent; her last immediate recollection was of blinking.
What seemed like moments later, Holcomb found herself driving about five miles farther along the road and feeling nauseated. She arrived home more than an hour later than expected. Her earlobes were inflamed and bleeding, and her earrings had been inserted backward.
Holcomb subsequently described memories of repeated experiences extending back to childhood. She made drawings of small, pale beings with hollow-looking eyes and long fingers, and of rooms containing unusual equipment. Those later scenes were part of the wider account she came to associate with the interruption on the Virginia road.
Holcomb lived and taught riding at Moonraker Equestrian Academy. She and farm owner Diana Graves later reported shared experiences and memories of encountering one another during earlier episodes, despite having grown up in different places. Their accounts became public in a 1993 USA Today/Gannett report and subsequent television interviews.
