Case description
The Agawam entry derives from a newspaper discussion of UFO claims, rather than a supplied fire-service or police investigation. In Steve Silk’s Hartford Courant reporting, reprinted by the Roanoke Times in January 1993, Marianne Shenefield described heavy UFO activity over Agawam during the preceding June. The Hatch record consequently places this material in June 1992.
Shenefield said hovering craft had been present, mailboxes along one street had caught fire simultaneously, and bright white light had illuminated a senior citizens’ centre. She also relayed claims that other people saw entities in their houses. These are separate allegations within a local wave; the article does not describe the beings’ appearance, establish their number or demonstrate that an object caused the fires.
Agawam police records sergeant Gary Nardi told the reporter that no unusual reports were filed for the night identified as particularly active. This important qualification is retained.
