Harperrig Reservoir, Scotland abduction report — August 17, 1992

On August 17, 1992, Gary Wood and Colin Wright were driving from Edinburgh toward Tarbrax on the A 70 when they encountered a dark object near Harperrig Reservoir. It hovered above the road, and as their car passed underneath it a shimmering curtain of light descended across the carriageway. Both men described a brief period of total darkness. When their ordinary awareness returned, the car was on the wrong side of the road and approaching an embankment. They continued their journey and later discovered that considerably more time had elapsed than the few seconds they remembered losing. Months afterward, hypnosis sessions brought out accounts of small gray figures removing them from the car and taking them into a circular room. They described an examination, including unusual details of the occupants' hands and cold skin. Those later recollections are distinguished from the object, light curtain and road displacement remembered immediately after the event. The episode was reported to investigators and eventually entered the Ministry of Defence's UFO correspondence. The public history of the case follows the road encounter, the recognition of missing time and the later attempts by the two witnesses to recover what they believed had happened during the interval.
