Case description
On the night catalogued as November 20, 1992, Lisa and a friend, called Loretta in published accounts, were returning from a MUFON meeting in Thousand Oaks, California. After leaving around 9:30 p.m., they joined the northbound 101 freeway. A bright, star-like light descended toward their car and illuminated it. Lisa recalled an impression that the surrounding traffic had stopped, followed by a gap in the ordinary sequence of the drive.
They next found themselves continuing in the car, unusually silent. When they stopped at a store, they discovered that it was approaching midnight, leaving roughly two hours they could not account for. Both later described distress and anxiety associated with the experience.
During subsequent hypnosis, Lisa described figures entering the car and taking the women upward through the light. She recalled being separated from Loretta, seeing her companion near a display resembling maps or star patterns, and being moved into another area herself.
Her account included numerous insectlike figures, one much taller than the others, and a painful physical examination using devices near her head and mouth. She also described being shown other areas and receiving personal messages. These were later recollections rather than a continuous account given immediately after the freeway incident.
The remembered sequence ended with the women reunited and descending toward their car. Loretta recalled less of the alleged interior episode than Lisa did. The initial shared observations and missing interval, and the different extent of each woman’s later recollections, remain distinct parts of the case.
