Case description
At about 5:30 p.m. on 20 June 1993, members of Giuseppe Zitella’s family reported an unusual object near Casa La Rocca at Pettorano sul Gizio, close to Sulmona. The police-report transcript says they first saw a spherical, balloon-like form roughly one hundred metres away, above a row of poplars. It descended, and Zitella pursued it, initially thinking someone had released a ball or balloon.
When he came within approximately ten metres, it reportedly rose about two metres, bounced upward repeatedly and then climbed toward the Morrone mountains. Zitella described an approximately metre-tall form with an oversized spherical head, legs attached directly to it and no torso. Large black eyes appeared beneath a pale transparent film; the face was brown and a small antenna-like projection rose from the top. These are witness descriptions, not evidence that it was alive or mechanical.
The catalogue’s twenty-five-centimetre ball estimate and other retellings’ larger total heights should remain distinguished. The entity and supposed vehicle are the same ambiguous object here; no separate carrier craft was described. Nearby June 1993 Pescara helicopter and Guidonia observations involve different witnesses and sequences. Balloon and remote-probe interpretations remain hypotheses. The plate follows the reported family scene and flags the size and identity uncertainties.
