Case description
Eighteen-year-old Brian Canfield told the Tacoma News Tribune that his pickup stopped on a rural road between Buckley and his home above Lake Kapowsin in April 1994. The 24 April newspaper described the encounter as occurring around 9:30 the previous Saturday night, pointing to 16 April; the ledger gives 17 April, while later retellings introduce 19 April and a morning time.
Canfield said the engine and dashboard lights failed but the headlights remained on. About thirty feet ahead, a creature descended feet first and stood watching him for several minutes. He described a nine-foot figure with bluish fur, a wolf-like head, tufted ears, yellow eyes with unusual pupils, straight white teeth, birdlike feet and leathery bat wings. It eventually spread its wings to approximately the road's width and flew toward Mount Rainier, with air movement rocking the truck. The engine restarted afterwards.
His family described his frightened condition after he returned home; a subsequent visit found no physical traces. The newspaper also recorded prior carburetor trouble, so the stall does not establish electromagnetic interference. Later internet mock articles should not be confused with proof that Canfield confessed to a hoax. This remains an uncorroborated creature account, popularly called Batsquatch, with no spacecraft reported.
