Case description
On October 15, 1995, an elderly farm worker near Torriente, Matanzas, reported a compact-car-sized object descending beside a cultivated field. Contemporary IPS reporting names him Adolfo Zárate, aged seventy-four, and gives about nine in the morning. He said he hid and saw an indistinct occupant collect something resembling malanga, a taro-like root crop, before returning to the object and leaving.
A later catalogue, using the surname Serrate, expands the story to a silver shell-shaped craft and two small, diving-suited occupants: one at a window and another gathering roots outside. It adds blue fire, smoke, footprints and scorched leaves. These details should be identified as later elaborations rather than silently inserted into the shorter contemporary account. The imported reference to yams is also less specific than the reported malanga.
IPS quoted local police chief Rafael Acosta discussing impressions consistent with two supports and reported interest from the Cuban Academy of Sciences. A separate broadcast transcription gives a night-time hour and expressly records no scorched grass, creating a further conflict over time and traces. Police attention or a scientific inquiry does not demonstrate an extraterrestrial visit. The reconstruction follows the later two-occupant variant in daylight, with healthy vegetation and unresolved faces, while documenting those limitations.
