East / Orense, Sp being encounter — February 20, 1997

At about 4 p.m. on Thursday, 20 February 1997, Heliodoro Núñez, 76, was tending livestock near the Devesas River at Paradaseca, in Chandrexa de Queixa, east of Ourense, Spain. The local newspaper account describes two bulky figures approximately three meters tall, close together and surrounded by changing lights and flashes. Their upper outlines seemed to form a conical shape. Later UFO summaries differ, sometimes giving three beings and conical headgear. Núñez said he watched for roughly twenty minutes, prayed and finally ran home. Looking back, he could still see the forms behind an oak that retained leaves. Neighbor Armando Portal reportedly saw him fleeing and shouting, but was not described as independently seeing the figures. Other summaries add a barking dog and lights above the pasture. The imported catalogue's red ball should remain a light report, rather than become a clearly resolved vehicle or a witnessed arrival of the giants. La Región's archival reproduction of Andrés Vellón's 1997 reporting preserves both the witness's alarm and his uncertainty about what he had seen. Residents did not confirm the beings. A much earlier bedroom-light experience recalled by Núñez is a separate episode. The conflicting counts and ambiguous conical outline prevent a confident anatomical reconstruction or an established extraterrestrial explanation.
