Case description
Before dawn on 25 August 1952, William Squyres, a musician and KOAM radio employee, was driving from the Frontenac area toward work in Pittsburg, Kansas. Published summaries vary slightly around 5:30–5:50 a.m. He reported a large dull-aluminium object hovering low over a field beside Yale Road northeast of Frontenac. He compared it to two oval meat platters or turtle shells joined at their edges, estimating about seventy-five feet long, forty-five feet wide and fifteen feet thick.
Squyres described rectangular windows, fluctuating bluish interior light and a series of closely spaced small propellers around the rim, rotating rapidly in a horizontal plane. Indistinct movement appeared behind several windows. At one clearer forward window he said he could see a motionless head-and-shoulders humanlike figure. He did not report recognisable alien anatomy; he actually leaned toward an experimental human aircraft interpretation. After stopping his Jeep station wagon, he walked closer and heard a throbbing sound.
As he approached, the object reportedly rose vertically and departed with a rushing sound compared to a covey of quail taking flight. People who later visited the field with him noted disturbed vegetation, but that does not independently establish the reported vehicle’s origin. The case entered Project Blue Book as number 1972 and appears in unexplained-case listings. That administrative category records the absence of an accepted identification, not proof of extraterrestrial occupants. The plate retains the whole oval vehicle and the window silhouette without converting an unresolved figure into a generic grey alien.
