Stone Park, IA being encounter — August 7, 1997

On 7 August 1997, Frank, 22, and Justin, 11, were driving through the wooded roads of Stone State Park near Sioux City, Iowa, toward Justin's grandmother's home. Beverly Trout's MUFON investigation places two people in the car, rather than the catalogue's compressed three-person wording. At about 9:30 p.m. they reportedly saw a dark triangular object estimated at sixty feet wide, roughly two hundred feet above the ground, which paced them for about two miles before crossing behind their car and moving away. Near the end of the drive, they said a long-legged, muscular, hyena-like animal struck or nudged the passenger side and looked in. Its reported features included light-tan fur with dark stripes and spots, a neck hump, small ears, a short pointed muzzle and red luminous eyes. They reached home at about 10:30, although the journey was expected to take fifteen minutes, leaving an estimated forty-five-minute discrepancy. Grandmother Brenda, 50, joined them outside and observed a much larger triangle; amber luminous spheres appeared to leave and rejoin it. The later display ended around 10:45. Justin subsequently described disturbing dreams involving figures, which the source separates from his conscious roadside recollection.
