UNCLASSIFIED It appears that there is a small, simplistic sketch or drawing of an unidentified flying object (UFO) in the top right corner of the document page. The UFO resembles a classic "flying saucer" design, with a tapered rear end and what could be interpreted as flames or propulsion coming out from the back. CHECK-LIST - UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS 1. Color N/S - shone brightly 18. Odor detected N/S 20. Apparent construction Apparently metallic since it shone very brightly 21. The text from the document reads as follows: UNCLASSIFIED about Sunset or 3 Aug 47, about 25 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of Moscow an experienced American newspaper reporter saw an unidentfied [sic] object at very high altitude. It shone very brightly probably from reflected sunlight. It looked like a rigid airship and was so identified by a Russian acquaintance who saw it at the same time. Its speed seems insufficient for a guided missile, but it could have been either a jet or conventional airplane at unusual left combinations and fore-shortening frequently give aircraft a freakish appearance. OBSERVERS SAY THAT THIS ROCKET, WHICH IS CLAIMED TO HAVE COME FROM THE NORTHWEST, WAS FLYING AT AN ALTITUDE OF 200 METERS OVER ANKARAYU BEFORE IT FELL. "ACCORDING TO RUMORS, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS ROCKET IS CONNECTED WITH THE FLY- ING DISC EXPERIMENTS BEING CONDUCTED BY THE RUSSIANS AT THE STATION ON KAPUSTIN YAR, CLOSE TO OUR WESTERN FRONTIERS." SOURCE: NA, ANKARA, TURKEY, 20 MAY 1949, SERIAL 65-49, EVAL. - F-3). MOSCOW, USSR, "AT ABOUT SUNSET ON 3 AUGUST 1948, ABOUT 25 KILOMETERS NORTHWEST OF MOSCOW, AN EXPERIENCED AMERICAN NEWSPAPER REPORTER SAW AN UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT AT A VERY HIGH ALTITUDE.
