The sighting was observed by a radar operator, and the target was described as similar to light with a painted radar scope at the Ashiya Air Base. PARA 7- C. (S]3] UA AT TIME OF OBSERVATION: OBJECT OBSERVED APPEARED AS A WHITE LUMINOUS BALL ABOUT 8 FEET IN DIAMETER TRAVELING FROM 230 DEGREES TO 270 DEGREES, MOVING AT 32 KNOTS FROM 275 DEGREES, NO LOGICAL EXPLANATION SUCH AS WEATHER BALLOON, AIRCRAFT OR OTHER KNOWN OBJECT COULD BE ASCERTAINED. On 15 October 1952 and again on 16 October 1952, unidentified objects described as luminous, stationary, oval-shaped objects were observed in the sky near Ashiya, Japan, by the personnel of this unit. The objects were first observed at about 6:30 p.m., 15 October 1952 and again at about 6:00 p.m., 16 October 1952. The objects were observed for a period of 15 to 20 minutes on both occasions. They appeared to be luminous, giving off a bluish-white light that changed to a reddish-orange as they moved. Remained stationary for about 10 to 15 minutes and then moved to the south for a distance of 20 to 30 miles, returning to the north in about the same time. e. Par 7. c. (3): Objects observed with radar set AN/MPN-1 (CCA) unit #20, on both 2 and 10 mile precision (azimuth and elevation) scopes and the search display on scope. Par 7. c. (9): Pilots of aircraft in vicinity reported seeing nothing. I observed moving with the other targets. These targets had no definite course or formation, but moved from north to south. Observed strange objects on precision radar scopes (AI/ERT-11) at altitudes ranging from five to ten thousand feet.
