On or during August 13, 1956, at or near Bentwaters Lakenheath England, United Kingdom, the source reports the following sequence: PROJECT 10073 RECORD CARD DATE: 13 AUG 55 LOCATION: BENTWATERS-LAKENHEATH, ENGLAND DATE/TIME GROUP: 23/200 (23 AUG) OBJECT: UNIDENTIFIED DURATION: 0-30 (13 AUG) REMARKS: RADAR OBSERVERS - GROUND AND AIR OBJECT DESCRIPTION: VARIED MOVEMENT AND SPEED: VARIED VISUAL OBSERVATION: INTERMITTENT RADAR OPERATION: GO-220, 23 (USAFE RADAR REPORTED 6 UNIDENTIFIED OBJECTS, 5000-8000 MPH, ALTITUDE 30,000-60,000 FT.) REMARKS: OBJECTS OBSERVED VISUALLY AND ON RADAR. THREE WERE OBSERVED BY GROUND RADAR AND TWO BY AIR RADAR. ONE OBJECT WAS OBSERVED TO DIVIDE INTO TWO OBJECTS, WHICH THEN MERGED AGAIN. It was then tracked by Sculthorpe GCA for about 30 minutes, after which it disappeared. I called and reported all the facts to this point, including Sculthorpe GCA's initial report, to the 3rd Air Division Command Post at London. The interceptor aircraft took off from an RAF Station near London and approached Lakenheath from the southwest. As the interceptors approached Lakenheath, the UFO (which appeared stationary) executed a very fast maneuver and at a tremendous rate of speed departed in a southerly direction. Also mentioned in the report were the details concerning the light which passed below them. This was partly guesswork, rather than actual contact, since the UFO had now disappeared from radar. The UFO had disappeared. The pilot was never able to overtake the UFO and it finally disappeared from his radar. The officer who drove the interceptor (who stopped and chased the UFO) has been interviewed here (in London) and he advised the interceptor that the UFO target lost all power during the chase, that it appeared to stop and hover, then suddenly accelerate to a fantastic speed. number two interceptor pilot could not get closer than about 1 mile, he was never able to close on it. whatever it was, it was maneuvering in a most incredible fashion - like nothing we have ever tracked before.
