Case description
A Project Blue Book file concerns an observation around 3:30 a.m. on 2 November 1957, approximately three miles west of Canadian, Texas, on U.S. Highway 60. Its account describes a red-and-white, submarine-shaped object in a roadside field, two or three car lengths long and about eight feet high, with a central conning-tower-like feature. The file lists military and civilian sources.
After rounding a curve and crossing a slight rise, the motorist's headlights illuminated the object. A flash was reported and the headlights went out. He stopped about 100 feet beyond it and began reversing to investigate, then changed his mind and drove forward; the lights returned. The object remained where it was when he left. A white form was described ambiguously as either a flag extending from the top or something held by a figure beside it. No detailed occupant anatomy was supplied.
The observation lasted about three minutes and no sound was reported. The Air Force record card classified it under other explanations and called the source unreliable. That assessment belongs beside the claim, rather than being replaced with a confirmed encounter. The plate retains the submarine comparison and ambiguous white form, without turning an uncertain flag-or-figure into an identifiable alien.
