On or during March 1958, at or near Adana Turkey, Turkey, the source reports the following sequence: BRIEF SUMMARY OF SIGHTING: Obj believed by source to be a jet, observed on N heading of 130 degrees. UNCLASSIFIED CITE INT-3-347 (1) SIGHTED BY: GROUND PERSONNEL OF THIS DETACHMENT. (2) LOCATION: ADANA, TURKEY (3) DATE/TIME GROUP: 4 MAR 58 APPROXIMATELY 2330L. (4) OBSERVED: LIGHT IN THE SKY - BELIEVED TO BE A FAST MOVING JET AT HIGH ALTITUDES, BUT THERE WAS NO SOUND. (5) ALL DETAILS ARE CONTAINED IN THE ATTACHED REPORT. VISUAL OBSERVATION: LIGHT WAS OBSERVED 138 DEGREES ELEVATION - LIGHT ORANGE IN COLOR. LIGHT APPEARED FOR ABOUT 4 MINUTES AND THEN DISAPPEARED. HOWEVER, AFTER THIS HOVERING FOR 3 MINUTES, THEN LIGHT MOVED OFF IN A COURSE OF 60 DEGREES UNTIL LOST FROM SIGHT. (2) OBJECT TRAVELLED ON A HEADING OF 335 DEGREES. IS THEN CHANGED COURSE TO 250 DEGREES. (3) LIGHT APPEARED VERY FAST AND SILENT WHEN FIRST SIGHTED. MEMO ROUTING SLIP A person saw a strange no aircraft in the sky. Further to the request from your office regarding the sighting reported from Adana, Turkey, during March 1953, our records indicate the following: 1. There have been reported overflights into Turkey from the Soviet and Arab Bloc countries. Jet exhausts, and particularly after-burners in operation, when viewed from a zero-angle of sighting on the ground, e.g., when the aircraft is at a climb and viewed directly from the rear at night and from a distance, often appears to remain motionless in space until the pilot goes into a well-known illusion and reported quite often. On the basis of the data given, there is no reason to believe that the "unknown light" observed was other than a high-altitude jet aircraft, with the observer at such a distance as to be unable to identify it as such, and, of course, that all friendly aircraft flights were accounted for.
