4Mi Nof Dillingham radar-visual unidentified-object report — May 7, 1960

On or during May 7, 1960, at or near 4Mi Nof Dillingham, Alaska, United States, the source reports the following sequence: COMMENTS: Round object with projection at the ends of object (This could a radar beam as the object between the projections)- On the bottom there was a moon shaped object which moved at varying speeds. THE NATIVES WHO OBSERVED THE OBJECT STATED IT CAME WITHIN 200 FEET OF THEM. WHEN THE OBJECT ROSE INTO THE AIR, A SUCKING NOISE WAS HEARD AND GRASS WAS SUCKED UP FROM THE GROUND. FINALLY ASCENDED RAPIDLY TO ESTIMATED 3230 FEET AND MOVED RAPIDLY SOUTH. THE PERSON WHO INTERROGATED THEM AND REPORTED SIGHTING IS SFC RALPH SORENSEN CALASKA NATIONAL GUARDS BOX 45, DILLINGHAM, ALASKA- BARGE PAGE THREE RJXDAG 137 OPERATOR, AGE 28. The weather was clear and the object was observed for about 1-2 minutes before disappearing behind a mountain. However, the observer was convinced that what he saw was neither a meteor nor a weather balloon, but rather an unidentified flying object. THE OBJECT WAS OBSERVED FOR APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MINUTES BY TWO OBSERVERS WHO BOTH CONSIDERED IT TO BE UNUSUAL AND UNIDENTIFIABLE. The diagram shows a "RIDGE" and the "PATH OF OBJECT" ascending from a point labeled "DILLINGHAM" to a point labeled "ASCENDED AT THIS POINT". According to the report, only one other person than those listed below who saw it at close range. In a town the size of Dillingham, this is probably the only other witness but we have given the names of those who saw it.
