Northeast India radar-visual unidentified-object report — January 1961

On or during January 1961, at or near Northeast India, India, the source reports the following sequence: BRIEF SUMMARY OF SIGHTING: This report is apparently re- lated to the sighting of a unknown object sighted by ground observers at 2753z, another observer at 2755z and subsequent observers thereafter. The object was first noticed about 100 ft above the ground moving rapidly towards N, it then slowed down and hovered over the village for about 5 minutes. Before it accelerated and disappeared entirely after 5 min. Stream of exhaust trailing behind the object was observed during its departure. The object was not detected on radar. The object hovered over the village for about 5 minutes then accelerated and disappeared. STREAM DIFFUSED AND DISTORTED UNTIL DISAPPEARED ENTIRELY AFTER FIVE MINUTES AND NOT THIRTY MINUTES AS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED. IT ROSE AND RAPIDLY GAINED ALTITUDE AND PROCEEDED IN A STRAIGHT COURSE FROM WEST TO EAST UNTIL SIX ECHO BALLOON LAUNCHINGS AT GALLO PS ISLAND WERE SIGHTING ONLY ROCKET LAUNCHING NOT BELIEVED IT WAS ROCKET LAUNCHINGS BECAUSE NOT HAVE SAME CHARACTERISTICS AS SEEN ROCKET LAUNCHINGS EARLIER.
