Case description
The original Project Blue Book file concerns a story dated August 18, 1961, at about 11 p.m. near Santa Fe. The imported August 8 date and references to radar or film arose from faulty automated transcription. The actual record card marks a civilian ground-visual report, no photographs, and an unreliable-report conclusion.
A June 2, 1962 letter forwarded an anonymous account solicited through LT-9 Radio Santa Fe’s programme A través del cable. The purported motorist said he was on the Camino de la Costa, approximately sixty kilometres from Santa Fe, when his car, lights and portable radio failed. A flashlight also allegedly would not work. Seeking help, he approached a light and hid among bushes.
The translated letter describes a saucer-like object approximately sixty metres long and thirty metres high, with around fifteen occupants. They allegedly wore sealed yellow or cream suits, helmets with outward-inclined antennas, and glassy bubble-like coverings. They looked human, pale-skinned and blond. The observer claimed they were moving another person, judged from clothing to be a labourer, up a ladder.
After everyone entered, the ladder withdrew and the object departed with a changing-colour trail; the motorist’s equipment supposedly worked again. Blue Book noted radio hearsay, inconsistencies and no tangible evidence. Archival retention documents the received story and official assessment, rather than confirming either a spacecraft or an abduction.
