Case description
The scanned packet identifies this as James Townsend’s 23 October 1965 report near Long Prairie, Minnesota, rather than the catalogue’s 12 October entry. Townsend, a nineteen-year-old radio announcer, said his car’s engine, lights and radio failed on Highway 27 at about 19:15. He stopped approximately twenty feet from an upright rocket-shaped object in the road, estimated at 30–40 feet high and ten feet wide.
Townsend said he got out intending to tip it over as evidence. Three tiny cylindrical objects then emerged from behind it, resembling individual tin cans on tripod legs, approximately six inches tall and without visible eyes. He stopped approaching. They reportedly returned to the craft, which emitted white light beneath it and a loud hum, then rose. His car’s electrical systems and engine allegedly resumed operation without his using the starter.
The Blue Book summary records a five-minute observation, no photographs and no physical evidence; its handwritten conclusion is Other/Psychological. A Saucer News extract in the same packet instead mentions oily road strips and three hunters seeing a light. Those claims differ in evidential scope. The original pages support the tiny-tripod account, not the extracted story of roadside humanoids studying a parked car.
