Case description
Five boys, aged roughly five to ten, were playing near Woodside Avenue at Conklin, New York, early on July 16, 1964. They reported a small figure beside a shiny, low-domed object in an overgrown field. The figure wore dark clothing and a helmet with a visor and antenna-like projections; an odd whistling or kazoo-like sound accompanied its movements.
The fuller account says the boys threw apples or stones toward it and described it moving or falling in an unusual manner before reaching the object. Some retellings turn the episode into an explicit request for water. In the more detailed source comparison, a boy offered water and several children went home to fetch it. That distinction matters: the short catalogue wording does not establish a completed exchange or intelligible conversation.
When children returned with an adult, the object was gone. Investigators recorded accounts of disturbed or discoloured vegetation and depressions, but these reported marks were not a demonstrated extraterrestrial material sample. Walter Webb and Owen Lake investigated, and the case appeared in the Binghamton Press and NICAP literature. The reconstruction brings the five children, helmeted figure and dome together during the reported observation.
