Case description
The original Blue Book packet identifies this as the North San Juan boys' story of June 1, 1967, with some contemporary press giving June 2. The imported March 15, 1952 date and corrupted locality text do not match that file. Tony Spruill, twelve, and John Bradshaw, nine, claimed that a small saucer landed in abandoned hydraulic-mining diggings and that they photographed it.
Their elaborate story included a ladder, four humanlike little people with bubble helmets and antennae, an interior lined with controls, a miniature craft and a purported visit from Alpha Centauri. The file records these as the boys' claims. Its cover marks physical evidence as absent and separates a probable-hoax assessment of the sighting from insufficient photographic data. This directly contradicts the machine-assisted cover transcription used in the import.
Investigator Lt. Joseph Kinderman concluded that the narrative was fabricated and the photographs depicted a small cup-or-bowl model. A September photographic report identified inconsistencies involving the alleged exhaust but required original negatives for dimensional analysis. Most decisively, the March 1976 APRO Bulletin printed a letter attributed to Bradshaw admitting the deception: Tony photographed the model while John held it up. The plate is therefore prominently labelled as a reconstruction of a hoax account, not an established encounter.
