Case description
This imported record combines different documents and misreads a form identifier as an event date. Page 112 of DEFE 31/173 concerns Stoke-on-Trent at 11:30 on 31 October 1984. An observer indoors, with others also mentioned, described a grey disc with a cone beneath it, approximately sixty feet across. It appeared to revolve rapidly and move parallel to nearby buildings during two periods of about thirty seconds.
The report gives an estimated forty-five-degree viewing angle and distance of one hundred yards. Grey mist, generating plant and factories are listed as surrounding conditions. The principal observer was said to work for the Daily Express, and the report was passed through local police and the CAA Manchester sub-centre. No beings or occupants are described. These are witness estimates and administrative details, not independently verified dimensions or a technical identification.
Pages 113–114 concern a separate airline-pilot observation on 1 November 1984 at 17:30 during an Aberdeen–Sumburgh flight. That observer described a red rocket-like object with a yellow trail, also reported as a bright flash by Sumburgh air traffic control. The printed “20.12.76” belongs to the reporting-form reference, not the sighting date; neither source supports the imported 20 December 1978 encounter. The plate selects the Stoke disc-and-cone report and explicitly labels the source correction, without mixing in the next day’s aircraft scene or inventing occupants.
