Case description
At about 20:32 on 5 April 1965, a Grade 10 student walking home with a friend near Musquodoboit Harbour noticed what initially seemed to be a shooting star. The writer described an almost cloudless sky and a quarter Moon. In a letter to the Department of National Defence, the student reported a glowing light crossing from the southwest toward the northeast at an estimated 5,000 miles per hour.
The light allegedly approached another object, overtook it and stopped while the other moved away. A third light then made a semicircular sweep north and disappeared. The student compared this succession to a relay race. Another red-hot-looking passage from the east might, the writer acknowledged, have been a shooting star. These are reported impressions of separate lights and movements, not measured trajectories or established vehicle performance.
The letter was dated the day of the observation and received on 12 April. The writer’s interest in becoming a test pilot provides context, but supplies no instrument confirmation. Nothing on the page describes occupants, a landed craft or contact. The illustration represents the two walkers and distant lights without assigning a detailed hull or creature to them.
