Carnestown entity encounter — May 6, 1966

At approximately 2:05 a.m. on May 6,1966, a motorist near Carnestown in Collier County reported that a large white light approached his vehicle from behind. The location was in southwest Florida, in the wider Naples area. According to the surviving NICAP summary, the light came within an estimated 100 to 150 feet of the car and changed to a blue-green colour. The driver tried to get away. The luminous object then overtook him with a rushing sound, curved around to the left and disappeared. The account does not describe a visible cabin, occupants or recognisable body structure beneath the light. It also does not state that the vehicle stalled, landed or was lifted. Those features should not be inferred from other motorist encounters. A shaken driver reportedly gave a statement to Naples police, and NICAP cites notes and a police statement in the Donald E.Keyhoe Archives. That makes the police the recipients of the report, rather than additional eyewitnesses. Despite the imported entity-style title, this remains a close light encounter in the available record.
