Case description

At about 6:05 p.m. on 17 February 1969, Shirley Ford reported seeing a round whitish-blue light while behind her residence near Sixth Avenue and Harper Street in Dawson, Yukon. The NRC telex compares its brilliance to a welding arc and its apparent size to a streetlight. It disappeared eastward behind the mountaintop known as the Dome. The sky was partly cloudy, with stars visible. The file names additional observers at two other yard locations: Doug Grimen, thirteen, Donna Grimen, ten, and Gail Close, twelve, behind the Grimen residence near Eighth Avenue and Church Street; and Ron Kingwell, sixty-seven, near Sixth Avenue and Harper Street. Reported observation periods ranged from fifteen seconds to five minutes. Estimated elevation was expressed relative to the Dome rather than measured instrumentally. The witnesses maintained that the light was neither a falling star nor a reflection of the northern lights, but those are their judgments, not documented exclusions established by testing. The archive provides no resolved craft surface, occupant, landing or physical interaction. Police reporting and the NRC transmission preserve the same episode and should not be counted as separate events. The plate combines the separately placed witness groups with an explicitly labeled composite and leaves the object as a light, avoiding invented occupants.
