Case description

An RCMP report dated in July 1970 records Walter Judson Vincent’s observation at Whitehorse on June 30. At about 04:10 Yukon standard time, the sign painter was working beside an open workshop door when he noticed an object in the sky, stepped outside, and watched for only two or three seconds. He reported it later that morning after speaking with a local radio announcer. Vincent described a saucer-shaped lower section with a squarish structure on top. Its colour reminded him of a red-hot electric stove element. He heard no sound and saw no vapour trail. The object was west of his premises and moving north, apparently above nearby treetops against light overcast. He estimated its length at twice a Boeing 737 and its speed at two or three times that of a Voodoo jet, but these were visual estimates during an exceptionally brief sighting. Police checked airport activity and meteorological balloon launches without finding a corresponding local explanation. The report notes Vincent’s previous RCAF safety-equipment work and sends the information onward to the NRC meteor centre. It does not report occupants or a landing. The scanned document clearly gives 1970; “1979” in the imported OCR is a transcription error. The plate therefore depicts an aerial object and its observer, without adding beings from the catalogue classification.
