Case description
An RCMP report dated January 17, 1975, records Dwain Loewen’s call from his farm about six-and-a-half miles south of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. He telephoned at 9:25 p.m. on January 16, saying that he and his wife had watched an unusual object since approximately 9 p.m. The document survives in Canada FOIA Part 08, page 93.
Loewen initially described it as stationary, northwest of the residence at an estimated distance of roughly one-and-a-half to two miles, emitting bright red, green and blue lights. He called the main source saucer-shaped. A light reportedly separated and moved east; subsequently another red light moved west. A constable attended immediately and used ten-power binoculars, but by then the source was very distant and appeared only as changing coloured lights. The total observation lasted about an hour under clear skies.
The document closes the local inquiry without identifying a physical vehicle or reporting occupants. The officer’s limited view should not be substituted for Loewen’s claimed shape, or vice versa. The plate brings the couple and attending officer into one illustrative scene and selects the westward-light phase. The main source remains distant and minimally resolved; no windows, beings or close landing are added.
