Case description
A NORAD-region message records two aircraft reports over eastern Québec on 14 July 1974 at 20:36Z. Scandinavian flight 094, whose pilot is named Captain Korsvold in the message, reported a triangular object while over the Charlevoix area. A Jet Commander identified as N1424, travelling toward Burlington, Vermont, supplied another observation. The weather included broken cloud and widely isolated thunderstorms.
The first report described a triangular object moving southwest, with an estimated altitude of 33,000 feet. The Jet Commander crew called it triangular but stationary, estimated it at 40,000 feet, and placed their own aircraft at 35,000 feet, thirty-five to forty miles southeast of Québec City. The reported duration was seven minutes. These accounts differ over motion and estimated altitude; the message does not establish a single precisely tracked vehicle or give dimensions, color, occupants or surface detail.
The same message records interference on 121.5 MHz at Bagotville and Mont Apica, thought to originate along a radar radial and ending on another bearing. Its inclusion does not prove that the visual object caused it, nor does a radial reference establish a radar return from the object. An adjacent archive page describing an inclined oval disc is actually a separate Sudbury airport report from 12 July and is excluded. The plate follows only the triangular appearance and aircrew viewpoint, retaining the source’s uncertainty rather than combining unrelated shape descriptions.
