Case description
On 28 July 1974, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Lucien Hotte of Hull, Quebec, telephoned police about a light seen near Rockcliffe Park, Ontario. The signed RCMP account identifies his wife and daughter as the actual observers. They described a very bright, round object changing position slowly and gradually, with the observation lasting at least fifteen minutes under clear conditions.
Police forwarded the information to the National Research Council's meteor centre and made inquiries with the local aviation control tower. Tower staff suggested that navigation lights on a small aircraft could resemble the reported object. They also mentioned an unusually conspicuous bright star toward the south. Hotte's wife confirmed the observation; police considered the family reliable, but that assessment did not identify the light.
On 31 July, an NRC contact likewise confirmed the presence of a bright southern star around the relevant time. The file also discussed an aircraft viewed nearly head-on as another possible explanation, with its light disappearing when its direction changed. No single explanation was definitively demonstrated in the recovered pages. There is no described landing, occupant, communication or physical trace. The illustration therefore retains an unresolved distant light rather than supplying a detailed vehicle.
