Canada reported unidentified aerial event — 1974-09-01 — Langenburg, SK

At about 10:30 a.m. on 1 September 1974, farmer Edwin Fuhr reported encountering five unusual objects while swathing grain north of Langenburg, Saskatchewan. He said he came on them about fifty feet away and approached to roughly twenty-five feet before becoming frightened and returning toward the swather. The sky was cloudy with light rain. The objects were described as ten to twelve feet across, highly polished steel above a duller grey lower lip, apparently rotating while hovering two or three feet above marshy grass. They eventually rose straight into cloud. No occupants were observed. Fuhr did not initially report directly to police; a relative, Karl Zorn, contacted the detachment that evening. Constable Ron Morier arranged to visit the following morning rather than treating the later ground inspection as a second witness's sighting of the objects. The RCMP occurrence report describes five separate circular areas of flattened grass, with vegetation in their centres standing untouched. It records photographs and Fuhr's apparently good standing in the community, but those observations do not establish what produced the marks. The witness said he could not hear a sound above the running swather. Later interviews add detail to his recollection; the plate principally follows the contemporary report's count, low hovering height and polished surfaces, without adding beings that the witness did not report.
