Case description
The Canadian file contains two separate Gander-area aviation reports. On October 10, 1974, around 10:10 p.m., pilot and air-traffic controller John Breen and passenger Janice Gould reported a greenish light while returning in a Cessna. They could not resolve its shape. A brief radar target was reported, but its connection to the observed light was not established.
On October 11 around 4:15 a.m. Atlantic Time, an American DC-8 crew approaching Gander described flashing red and white lights apparently moving alongside their aircraft at about 7,500 feet. Their report lasted five to seven minutes and included apparent changes between an alongside and slightly forward position before the lights disappeared into cloud. The RCMP narrative explicitly says the crew could not distinguish a shape.
Air-traffic control tracked the descending DC-8 but did not establish another corresponding target during this second incident. Neither report describes occupants, a landed vehicle or communication. The illustration follows the October 11 event, showing representative crew members in a period DC-8 cockpit and unresolved red-white lights outside. The previous evening’s Cessna, green light and brief radar return are kept in the description as a separate report, without manufacturing one continuous pursuit.
