Canada reported unidentified aerial event — 1975-12-03 — Kleefeld, MB

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on 3 December 1975, Adelle Yestrau rose to attend to an infant near Kleefeld, Manitoba, and noticed intermittent bright flashes. She initially thought of lightning, then saw an extremely intense white light apparently directed toward the house from the south. The original RCMP report and telex read 05:30; the imported 05:12-style text is an OCR problem. The sky was overcast and it was still before dawn. The light continued for about an hour, flashing at roughly one-to-two-minute intervals. She described downward rays spreading like a cone or shower of sparks. Its apparent source was estimated at forty feet above the ground, but glare prevented the source itself being discerned. Mr. and Mrs. W. Dyck, across the municipal road, also watched; from their oblique position they described a bluish tinge at the beam's edges. They first considered night hunters, while Yestrau considered lightning. No movement, engine sound, displaced snow or air turbulence was reported. The source was present and then absent, rather than seen departing. Constable D. I. Richardson inspected the flat, lightly snow-covered area later that afternoon and found nothing unusual. Checks with CFB Westwin Air Operations and transport authorities yielded no radar sighting for the complaint, and the file was forwarded for information with no further police action required. No occupants or identifiable craft were described; the plate retains the unresolved glare and the witnesses' separate indoor viewpoints.
