Canada reported unidentified aerial event — 1977-01-03 — Bridgetown, NS

An RCMP report identifies Lawrence Ritchie “Busby” Lowe and his wife Hilda as the observers at Bridgetown East, Nova Scotia. At 20:40 on 3 January 1977, Lowe looked west through the pantry window of their home at the intersection of Trunk No.1 and Saunders Road. He noticed a bright orange, half-moon-shaped object, initially stationary, and called his wife to look. They watched for approximately ten minutes, both with the unaided eye and through 7×50 binoculars. Lowe said the orange colour changed to bright white, and that small white lights were visible around the edge through the binoculars. He reported about five movements upward, downward diagonally and sideways. The object finally disappeared in the western sky, appearing to descend. He estimated an elevation angle near thirty degrees and a height around five hundred feet, but could not estimate its distance; those figures therefore remain uncertain impressions. Lowe telephoned the detachment at 09:35 the following morning and was interviewed at home at 11:00. The report, dated 17 January, records clear sky, snow-covered ground and no sound heard from indoors. It states that no other related reports reached that office and was forwarded to the National Research Council. The preserved scans clarify the garbled Atlas OCR: 09:35 is a reporting time, not the sighting time. No occupant or close physical interaction appears in the document. The plate shows the couple observing from their home and leaves the luminous object’s physical nature undefined.
