Case description
At approximately four in the morning on November 17, 1966, two police officers near Gaffney reported a round object with a broad, flat rim descending close to the road. NICAP places this event in South Carolina; the imported record’s Massachusetts location is inconsistent with that chronology and should not be treated as a second encounter.
The short listing gives an estimated twenty-foot diameter, an observation from less than fifty feet away, and a small humanoid descending when a door opened. A fuller account attributed to John Keel names officers C. Hutchins and A. Huskey and places them on the West Buford Street Extension. It describes a dull-gold, spherical object illuminated by the patrol car’s headlights, a short ladder beneath a white-lit doorway, and a roughly four-foot humanlike occupant wearing a shiny gold suit without a helmet. The figure allegedly approached and spoke English before returning aboard. The officers were unable to remember a complete conversation.
The meeting reportedly lasted a few minutes. Footprints were subsequently claimed at the site; the longer narrative adds a promised return that did not occur. These additions derive from the fuller retelling, rather than the short trace catalogue alone. An unrelated Blue Book light observation appearing in imported material is not part of this case.
