Case description
At about 8 p.m. on 1 February 1977, three boys near Sparwood, British Columbia, reported coloured lights forming what appeared to be a triangular aerial object. The telex identifies Alban Corcoran and Kenny Casselman, both eleven, and Darryl Casselman, twelve. They were approximately one mile from Sparwood under clear skies and watched for about ten minutes.
The apparent triangle had a bluish-green apex, green lower-left light and pinkish-red lower-right light, with a red flash noted near its bottom. The boys thought it moved east to west in an arc at a considerable height before disappearing behind a ridge. They also overheard two adults discussing a UFO on CB radio; those adults were said to be driving on Harmer Ridge, but were not independently identified in the initial message.
The follow-up changes the case substantially. RCMP members watched the lights on 5 February and concluded that mining equipment belonging to Kaiser Resources had been mistaken for a UFO. The signed report specifically identifies a crane operating on Harmer Ridge, whose lights matched those described. This is a documented conventional identification, not an unresolved triangular craft or an occupant encounter. The plate includes the identified mining-crane context and labels it as an explanatory reconstruction.
