Case description

Brian David Peveril reported seeing an unusual object at about 23:15 Atlantic Standard Time on 2 February 1978 while driving on Highway 101, approximately two miles west of Mount Uniacke, Nova Scotia. The preserved RCMP report, dated 16 March, describes a clear sky. Peveril thought another vehicle ahead of him must also have had a view, but the officer could not locate that driver or any additional witness. Peveril described three sections connected by small wing-like attachments. Each section had a bright yellow or white light at its front, and a small flashing red light appeared underneath. The object seemed stationary and silent above the highway. He drove beneath it, continued onward and eventually lost sight of it; the full viewing interval was estimated at approximately five minutes. No occupants, windows, communication, pursuit or landing were described. The report gives no measured size, altitude or reliable distance. Peveril subsequently contacted Halifax International Airport's control tower and was told that nothing unusual had appeared to its personnel. The investigating constable noted that this area lay under an approach path used by several flights into Halifax, making a conventional aviation interpretation relevant, but did not document a matched aircraft. The officer also described Peveril favorably as someone unlikely to invent the story and closed the report. The plate preserves the three-part light arrangement while leaving its engineering approximate and explicitly states that no occupants were reported.
