Case description
Walter Brent Murray, an eighteen-year-old student, reported six orange lights while driving toward Ninette, Manitoba, shortly after midnight on 25 April 1978. In his signed statement he says he left a friend’s home at about 00:10 and was travelling north in a 1976 Dodge pickup. He first noticed one bright, egg-shaped orange object and then five similar lights joining it in an east–west line.
The lights appeared stationary before moving east across the highway near the valley rim. Murray drove through Ninette, tried unsuccessfully to attract another motorist’s attention and returned north. He described the six lights maintaining even spacing, descending behind trees and later rising from the same place, disappearing individually. He was unsure whether movement into darkness explained their final disappearance. His statement mentions a short, high whistle on appearance and departure, and difficulty recalling radio audio while watching them.
Constable P. Whattam interviewed Murray, visited the area and checked with nearby residents, who had seen nothing unusual. The officer offered no identification but noted the possibility of lights originating near CFB Shilo. The first telex gives an inconsistent 18:15 time; the signed account and later investigation specify shortly after midnight. No structured vehicle, protrusions or occupants were described. The plate therefore follows the six orange luminous forms and pickup-truck observation, while keeping their apparent altitude and precise physical shape uncertain.
