Case description
Farmer Andrew William Watamanuk contacted Souris RCMP on 12 April 1978 about an object west of his farm. He described a yellow spherical centre reddening at its edges, with opposite wing-like extensions emitting pulsating blue-green light and intermittent red flashes. He estimated it at three thousand feet and said it moved vertically and between neighboring farms, disappearing and returning before drifting west. He also recalled a similar observation on 9 April.
Police attended around 21:10 and saw a bright pulsating point changing between white, green and blue with red flashes. Binoculars intensified the colors, but the officers explicitly failed to see the wings and movements Watamanuk excitedly described. They followed the light's slow westward movement near the Moon until clouds interfered. Neighbor interviews provided no corresponding view: one person was away, another saw nothing when she stepped outside and another missed his opportunity to look.
Transport officials reported no accountable aircraft. Brandon University's Dr. J. R. Rice suggested Jupiter as the largest natural light near the Moon, but no telescope examination followed. A continuation records later similar lights, including an 18 April call from another farm and a claimed red-white fireball that police did not witness. The RCMP regarded Watamanuk as responsible and closed the report without establishing an extraordinary craft. The plate depicts the shared police-and-farmer view of an unresolved colored light; a claimed winged sphere and a verified vehicle are not treated as interchangeable.
