Canada reported unidentified aerial event — 1978-06-26 — Caraquet, NB

Florence Albert’s signed statement dates her Caraquet-area observation to 26 June 1978. Leaving the Motel du Village around 1:30 a.m., she noticed a red object that she initially thought was the moon. As she drove, it appeared increasingly round and seemed to come closer. She said it accompanied or preceded her car, changing apparent position and sometimes moving up and down. When she turned into her home’s driveway, the object appeared near trees on a neighboring property. As she got out of the car, it reportedly departed rapidly toward the bay. She arrived around 1:45 a.m. In describing its form, Albert said the right-hand end was very rounded and the left more elongated; its reddish-orange glow appeared to come from the object itself. The RCMP transmission compared its outline with an Esso sign, a shape analogy rather than a claim that lettering or a logo was visible. The statement was taken on 9 August 1978. A transmission also records her impression of being hypnotized and difficulty remembering part of the drive, but no hypnotic investigation or missing-time calculation is supplied.
