Canada reported unidentified aerial event — 1978-08-03 — Codette, SK

Steve and Mary Rudy reported a bright light over a crop field approximately ten miles east of Codette, Saskatchewan, at about 02:15 in August 1978. The initial telex gives 3 August, while the detailed follow-up form gives 2 August. Both belong to the same file, so the plate retains month-level precision and labels the date variation. Mary first saw it from the bedroom for ten to fifteen seconds and woke her husband. Together they watched from the dining-room picture window as it appeared to move east–west, bob slightly up and down, then travel south toward the horizon. The second observation lasted approximately thirty to forty-five seconds. They described one round, brilliantly luminous form, yellowish like an unusually bright flashlight bulb, with an estimated diameter of four to five feet. It appeared about a foot above the crop, roughly two hundred yards away. No trail or sound was reported. Police found no tracks or physical evidence that anything had touched the field. The observers considered car headlights unlikely because of the slope and viewing geometry, but that did not establish an alternative explanation. Other local enquiries produced no additional sightings. Photographs documented the house and sightlines afterward, not the light itself. The plate selects the joint dining-room phase, keeping the object a luminous sphere and adding neither occupants nor a structured vehicle.
