Case description
Linda Joncas reported waking at her Senneville, Quebec, home on 28 January 1979, with the bedside digital clock reading 09:50 Z. She intended to feed and change her baby, then noticed the bedroom flooded with bright, milky illumination. At the window she saw a yellow ring or doughnut-shaped light with a very bright white edge, through upper tree branches.
The UFO Canada form describes an apparent size comparable to an oval dinner plate at arm’s length. Trees across the property were estimated forty to fifty feet high and two hundred to five hundred feet away; the light appeared slightly below their tops. Joncas woke her husband. As he awoke, the visible light abruptly went out. A low-pitched pulsating hum reportedly lasted another three seconds, which he heard without seeing the object. The sighting was estimated at ten to fifteen seconds.
After speaking to a relative and newspaper editor, Joncas was interviewed by UFO Canada representatives, who offered to relay the report to the National Research Council. Their notes considered a missing Valcartier radiosonde but doubted that explanation under the reported low overcast, and suggested ball lightning as another possibility. Neither proposal was established. No occupants were reported. The plate selects Joncas alone at the window before she woke her husband, preserving the luminous ring without adding vehicle hardware or beings.
