Case description
At approximately 9 p.m. on 20 September 1978, Félix Savoie of Evangeline, near Caraquet, New Brunswick, reportedly noticed an unusual object as he stepped out behind his house. The sky was cloudy. The surviving RCMP telex describes one object, watched for about five minutes as it flew and gradually moved downward toward the ground.
Savoie compared its outline to a saucer with something on top and something underneath. The entire object appeared red to purple, without flashing lights. The recovered pages do not give a secure size, distance or detailed geometry for those projections. They also do not establish that it actually touched down. The imported wording contains another description of a descending ball of flame; that should not override the clear saucer comparison in this particular Savoie telex.
Caraquet RCMP recorded that a witness statement had been taken and relayed the sighting to the National Research Council. The two recovered pages are essentially duplicate transmissions rather than two independent observations. No occupants, open hatch, interaction, radar confirmation or physical trace are described. The reconstruction therefore shows the reported overall red-purple outline at a distance and leaves its construction unresolved. Archival recording confirms that a report was made, not what the object was.
