Case description

Ronald Watkins and his wife Cher reported a light-bearing object while travelling north on Highway 2, approximately twenty kilometres south of Bowden, Alberta. The RCMP report’s heading gives 28 September 1978, but its first numbered paragraph says 9 September at 03:50 Mountain Standard Time. The available copies preserve that conflict, so the plate uses September rather than choosing an unsupported exact day. Under a clear sky, Watkins said he saw a bright white, saucer-like object with a small red light on either side. He estimated its height at five hundred feet. It initially appeared to travel south rapidly, then seemed to stop when he stopped his vehicle. After approximately ten minutes, he moved a short distance north and thought it moved about an eighth of a mile south. The sequence reportedly repeated before the couple left, the object appearing to leave quickly. No sound was heard. Police subsequently patrolled the area at night without seeing it. The report notes that both observers were very tired and considers the possibility of a stationary light producing an apparent movement effect. Watkins was travelling and unavailable for an immediate further interview. No occupants or physical evidence were described. The plate keeps the form distant and uncertain, showing the couple with the reported white and red lights rather than an elaborate spacecraft.
