Case description
At approximately 22:20 on 14 August 1977, John Maylor reported a bluish object while about twenty miles north of Cache Creek, British Columbia. In the RCMP’s subsequent letter, it travelled north for a short time, maintained a constant brightness, appeared somewhat larger than the Moon, and produced neither audible sound nor visible bursts. The sky was clear.
The letter to geologist W. R. Danner is dated 15 August and prominently stamped “IDENTIFIED AS A METEOR.” This is the same document underlying the separate Clinton catalogue entry, whose observers reported slightly later times. The two entries therefore preserve different reported locations within a shared fireball file rather than establishing unrelated encounters.
The page provides no occupants, landing, communication or resolved metal craft. Those absences matter when interpreting the database’s encounter tags: a bright object being seen does not imply a being was seen. The illustration shows the named observer and an aerial fireball; the road setting and his appearance are contextual reconstruction, not recovered photographic evidence.
