Canada reported unidentified aerial event — 1980-09-07 — Toronto, ON

Karen Jones reported an unusual light over Lake Ontario from a south-facing kitchen window in the Mimico area of Toronto on 7 September 1980. The initial message gives 06:28 and says the object was still visible. It describes a silvery, star-bright appearance, six apparent prongs and red lights above green ones, moving up and down over the water. Those are reported impressions rather than a verified vehicle design. A December RCMP follow-up records a round silvery appearance with red, green and white flashing lights, hovering or moving vertically. Karen’s father described rapid side-to-side and vertical movement without leaving the same general area. Karen said observations extended from approximately 01:00 to 07:00 and that she had seen something similar there before. The report places it generally over the Toronto Island Airport area, but supplies no dependable distance or measured altitude. The first message referred to Karen’s parents. The follow-up instead names her father, grandmother and a neighbour as associated observers; the grandmother and neighbour could not be interviewed. Airport weather information confirmed generally good visibility, but enquiries found no corresponding reports at the airport office or David Dunlap Observatory. The officer recorded Karen’s and her father’s conviction without identifying the light. No occupants were reported. The plate selects those two interviewed observers and the later light description, avoiding a speculative six-pronged spacecraft.
