Case description
This Lower Woods Harbour file belongs to the October 4, 1967 Shag Harbour incident. The initial RCMP telex in Canada FOIA Part 18 gives 050210Z October 1967, a UTC timestamp falling on the previous local evening. It identifies Corporal Wercicky at Barrington Passage and six other witnesses whose names were known to him.
The telex describes a dark object estimated at more than sixty feet long, with four white lights spaced roughly fifteen feet apart. It moved east at low altitude and descended rapidly toward the water, reportedly with a high whistling sound and a bright flash. A single light then remained on the surface too long for the corporal to reach it by boat. The document’s timing and later retellings should not be compressed into one instantaneous crash image.
Coast Guard lifeboat 101 and small boats searched without recovering an object; aircraft leads were also checked without a result in that report. No occupant was seen or alien body recovered. The plate selects the initial shore observation before impact, including the officer, representative civilians and the complete indistinct illuminated object. Their positions and likenesses are illustrative. Later underwater narratives are separate claims, not details established by this initial telex.
