Case description

This Carleton County record preserves a redacted RCMP copy of the Maple Ridge observations of 1–2 May 1972. It should be read together with the separately indexed Maple Ridge entry: the wording, sequence and police correspondence identify the same household report. The unredacted National Research Council copy names the witnesses as Nelma and Gordon Graham. The two archive locations do not establish two independent incidents or additional witnesses. The first observation began at approximately 12:15 a.m. on 1 May. Mrs. Graham described a conspicuous blinking red light in the northwest, initially appearing cross-shaped and moving vertically. She watched for roughly twenty minutes before it disappeared over the horizon; her husband observed it for approximately ten minutes. Their home offered an open, unobstructed view. The weather was clear, the moon lay in the eastern sky, and no sound was reported. Its altitude could not be determined, although she thought it very high. A similar observation followed on 2 May, from approximately 12:40 until 1 a.m. The police interviewed Mrs. Graham following a newspaper account, forwarded a radiogram to the National Research Council on 4 May, and documented the investigation in a report dated 20 May. The report described the witnesses as reputable and indicated no further action unless instructed. That administrative conclusion neither identifies the red light nor proves an unusual vehicle. No occupant, landing, abduction or physical interaction appears in the recovered pages. The source supports a two-night distant-light report; any detailed craft structure or humanoid illustration would add information the witnesses did not provide. Degraded text recognition must also be checked against the scans: the year is 1972, despite occasional OCR readings resembling 1978.
