Case description
The recovered RCMP message corrects this record's location. It concerns a motorist near Mile 931 of the Alaska Highway, travelling southeast toward Whitehorse, Yukon, around 03:00 on 12 September 1968. Vancouver appears because the report was addressed to Dr W. F. Slawson at the University of British Columbia, not because the sighting occurred there. The observer's name is redacted; Porter Creek, Yukon, is given with the identifying information.
On a clear night the motorist reportedly watched a yellowish, moon-coloured light for about ten seconds. It looked much smaller than the Moon, roughly bulb-shaped with a pointed tail or end. It seemed to drop almost vertically and disappeared behind a hill to the southeast. No burst, sparks, persistent train, shadows or sound were noticed. The quoted apparent foot-wide size is an impression without a measured distance and cannot establish the object's physical diameter.
The September 18 forwarding message is headed as a meteor or fireball report and says no other reports had been received locally. That routing description is not a demonstrated final identification. There is no resolved craft, occupant or close interaction in the page. Its plate uses an illustrative gravel-road driving scene in Yukon and a small descending light, retaining uncertainty about distance and elevation instead of adding an airframe.
