Case description
Josephine Lambert and Sam Rigel were at a shuffleboard court in Hollywood, Florida, at approximately 4:30 p.m. on February 19, 1967, when they noticed an unfamiliar object passing low overhead. The fuller HUMCAT account places it about twenty feet above the telephone poles, a distinction from the shortened catalogue’s apparent twenty-foot altitude.
The object was described as a blunt oval, roughly twenty-five feet wide and ten feet high, with a gunmetal-grey surface. Its underside looked uneven or dented. Yellow-lit, arched or shield-shaped openings ran around the body, and a lower band of green lights appeared to revolve. The witnesses reported seeing heads resembling people or manikins through the openings; the available description does not resolve faces or establish the occupants’ height.
The slow-moving object reportedly remained visible for thirty to forty seconds. There was no reported landing, conversation, or taking aboard. Vickie Varnum’s March 11 Hollywood Sun-Tattler article and a March 27 report to NICAP form the documented source trail. The striking details are the low passage, contrasting coloured lights, and apparent heads behind illuminated windows. Descriptions of recognizably human or alien anatomy beyond those heads would exceed the surviving account.
