Case description
A Church of England clergyman from Baie Verte reported a bright falling appearance while driving back from Westport, Newfoundland, on 17 April 1969. The police narrative places him approximately seven miles east of Westport Road at 20:40. He contacted an officer the next day, and subsequent correspondence preserved the account as a fireball sighting.
He said the object resembled a falling meteor and estimated it between two and ten miles away. Its central region looked burning orange-red, surrounded by blue, giving a cone-like appearance. He estimated a length of eight feet and width of six feet at the broadest end, while describing extremely rapid movement downward at roughly forty-five degrees toward the northwest. The full observation lasted approximately two to five seconds. The large distance range makes those physical dimensions particularly uncertain.
The reporting constable regarded the clergyman as a steady, reliable person, while supplying no technical identification or corroborating instrument data. The brief description contains no occupants, windows, landing, impact site or retrieved material. The use of a geometric shape should not be converted into evidence of a manufactured cone-shaped vehicle. The plate selects the driver’s moment of observation, with an orange-red luminous head edged in blue, retaining the file’s fireball context and leaving exact size, car, road and likeness illustrative.
